Michelle Salcedo

AWD Member Michelle Salcedo has signed on to direct The Body, a new thriller from Catalyst Studios. The film boasts a script from “Inside Man” writer Russel Gewirtz. The Body is about a “tough, female, Detroit cop” on a mission to transport a witness across the country and arrive safely in the Motor City. Production is due to commence in Belgrade in 2022.

Elaine Del Valle

Brownsville Bred, a film by AWD Member Elaine Del Valle, recently won the SXSW Audience Award and the Seriesfest Caz Matthews Award, where Elaine also received honorable mention for Best Director. The film, set in 1980’s Brownsville, Brooklyn, NY in the height of the crack and crime epidemics, focuses on a spunky Latina who must find her own path as she comes of age.

All Festival presentations were made with Act One of Brownsville Bred. Filming on the feature length film resumes later this year.

Mora Carew

AWD Member Mora Carew‘s short film, 2 Eye Drops from Normal, premiered at the 2022 Pan African Film Festival in April, and won the Programmers’ Award for Short Narrative. The film tells the story of a hybrid vampire-human teenager who tries to assimilate into a small desert town.

Laura Seay

AWD Member Laura Seay was featured in a Premium Beat: Shutterstock interview regarding the release of her new comedy short, The Coupon. The article delves into her experience as a filmmaker and how she made the transition from actor to director. Her film centers on a woman who finds herself embroiled in a Kafkaesque legal nightmare when her husband gives away the cutesy romantic coupon she made for him to a stranger.

Anna Chi

The Disappearance of Mrs. Wu, a film by AWD Member Anna Chi, took home the award for Best Achievement in Directing at the 2022 Universe Multicultural Film Festival. The film was also nominated for Best Picture at the festival.
