AWD AT SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON
AWD hosted two fantastic panels at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
During “Black Women in Action Filmmaking,” the panelists gave inspiring insights into their lives and careers in the action world highlighting challenges like being overlooked and underestimated while finding innovative ways to “prove” themselves over and over again and weather the microaggressions.
They all agreed that empowering stunt coordinators and stunt people to bring their expertise in safety and in elevating the action is essential to the process. Mentorship and passing on knowledge to others was also a constant theme throughout the conversation.
For “Funding Your Director’s Vision,” panelists provided detailed breakdowns of funding methods as well as major do’s and don’ts that they have learned the hard way themselves or seen through others. They also highlighted the importance of persistence. Often these things seem impossible but one small step can lead to another connection that might be a big step in the long run.
Thank you to the panelist and guests!
Members of AWD and the Alliance for Women Film Composers met up during the Con for raffled prizes and discounts for new members. Events like these help forge the incredible connections that push our mission forward.
SOCIAL SUNDAY: MIXER with The League of Women Writers
Every month AWD Members gather for a “Social Sunday,” either in person in LA or virtually, to connect and inspire. This month we met up with The League of Women Writers for an intimate mixer.
Several attendees learned they were eligible for Ally Membership with AWD, and a few new professional partnerships were formed.
