Born and raised in GuangZhou-China, immigrated to Montreal-Canada, and now based in Toronto, ZhiMin Hu is a Chinese Canadian independent filmmaker and a Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema (Concordia University) and WIDC (Women In Director’s Chair) alumna.

She is fascinated by stories that explore human nature and psychology, promote humanity and enlightenment, and provoke reflection on social aspects. She had written, produced, directed and edited one feature documentary and ten shorts, including fiction, documentary, and experimental film.

Her short film, I’m Waiting for Mama won the Best Canadian Short at RIFFA; Ketchup & Soya Sauce was nominated for Best Canadian Feature at Vancouver Asian Film Festival and is broadcast at CBC. Her feature film, Under the Red Umbrella, is optioned and in the development with Telefilm Found. Her second feature film, Never Alive, Already Dead, won the scriptwriting grants from Canada Council for the Arts.
