Award-winning filmmaker Dr. Valerie Weiss explores complicated human relationships in genres spanning comedy, action, thriller, drama, and science-fiction in her feature films and over 40 episodes of television.
Her episodes of STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS (Paramount+) are considered "instant classics." One puts Kirk in the Captain's chair for the first time and is hailed as a backdoor pilot for a potential spinoff. Upcoming shows include the premiere block of Season 4 of the megahit GINNY AND GEORGIA (Netflix), and IT'S NOT LIKE THAT (Amazon/Wonder). Prior work includes the finale of ECHOES (Netflix) and 3 seasons of Netflix's global sensation OUTER BANKS (Netflix) and shows for television's biggest producers including Brian Yorkey, Shonda Rhimes, Dick Wolf, Greg Berlanti and Marc Cherry. Valerie has directed 4 films including the critically-acclaimed MIXTAPE and A LIGHT BENEATH THEIR FEET. She will direct TALKING TOM, (CG character in a live action world) for Flywheel Media (Angry Birds 3) and a comedy called DANCING DADS which she has written based on her ballerina daughter. She studied X-ray Crystallography at Harvard Medical School, earning a Ph.D.. Valerie is active in leadership at the DGA, is an alum of AFI DWW, and her short film inspired by MAZE RUNNER was selected out of 50 entries from AFI alumni to be produced by Fox Bridge Program.
