Find a Director
Silvia Lara is a previously undocumented, award-winning writer/director and cinematographer born in Chihuahua, Mexico, and raised in both Mexico and Los Angeles.
As both a life and career goal, Silvia works diligently to align herself with people and projects that make conscious commentary and with the potential to have reverberating effects in culture today. It is her greatest ambition to use her skills as a filmmaker to honor the communities in which she has personal ties and lived-experience.
Silvia Lara's directorial work has garnered her recognition at the 2023 Micheaux Film Festival for "Wishful Thinking", an English/Portuguese LGBTQIA+ comedic short, the 2020 Frieze Art Festival as their Grand-Prize Winner for her 16mm film "Beauty Never Lost" and at the Dallas Chamber Symphony’s “Sight of Sound” Competition in which her film "Impetus" was deemed “Audience Choice”.
Having previously lent her skills as a cinematographer to the NHMC Latine Stream Showcase, NHMC invited Silvia back in 2023, this time as a director for two Latine shorts; a dramatic LGBTQIA+ and a comedic horror/thriller both scheduled to premiere at the DGA in late 2023.
She holds an A.A. in English Literature, a B.A. in Film from UCLA and is a Cinematography alumni at the American Film Institute Conservatory. Professionally, Silvia is a member of AperturaDOP, ICF+C and Alliance of Women Directors.
