Mikaela Bruce is a writer and director based in Los Angeles. Mikaela studied filmmaking at the University of Hawaii and earned a masters in screenwriting at Carlos III University in Madrid. Mikaela spent nearly a decade in Spain developing her voice as a director working on powerful and diverse shorts like Pasarea (The Bird) lamenting human trafficking crisis in Europe which screened at Málaga Film Festival, and Hermana (Sister) a period thriller that premiered at Medina Film Fest (Goya Qualifying) featuring work by editor by Pablo Revert (Klaus), and score by Jesi Nelson (Jinn, Star Wars Biomes). Her most recent narrative short, Not Afraid, was selected for the "Fresh Perspectives in Cinematography Grant" through the ASC and stars JaShaun St. John, (Songs my Brothers Taught Me). The film premiered at LA SKINS, the largest Native American festival in the US, and was awarded the “Indigenous Film Award” from Windrider Institute. Mikaela is currently slated to shoot her first documentary feature, ‘Communities’ in Burgos Spain, recalling a youth movement at the end of the Spanish dictatorship, shooting summer 2024. Mikaela was selected to participate in the inaugural cohort of "Resilient Artists" through the Brehm Center (Fuller Seminary) and she is also an educator at the Los Angeles Film Studies Center.
