Magdalena Albizu is a writer, director, and producer, and the founder of NubianLatina Productions. She began her career as a social worker before transitioning into film and television, bringing a deep social consciousness to narratives that amplify underrepresented voices.
Her debut documentary, NEGRITA, examines colorism and anti-Black racism within American and Latino communities through the lens of Afro Latina identity. The film screened at over 10 festivals — including a sold-out showing at Lincoln Center — and won Best Documentary at the Reel Sister Film Festival and Best Cultural Heritage at the Georgia Latino Film Festival. It is now available for public and educational screenings through Third World Newsreel.
Albizu has expanded into vertical and micro-drama formats as both director and producer. Her series Santos, centered on a haunted botanica, is currently streaming on ReelShorts. She is in pre-production on Mallory Hall, an upcoming scripted television series.
