Laramie Dennis is a director and writer committed to telling unexpected stories about complex female characters. Subjects that fascinate her include sex, social anxiety, family, female friendship, and rock n roll. Her latest project, a feature film in development entitled LIFE ON sMARS, earned her a spot at the fourth annual THROUGH HER LENS: The Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program, along with a grant from Chanel and The Tribeca Film Institute. In 2019, she made finalist for both the SFFILM Sloan Fellowship and the TFI Sloan Filmmaker Fund. GIRL PRETENDING TO READ RILKE, her adaptation of the novel by her mother, was a finalist for Script Pipeline, and LOVE THE BLUE, an original screenplay she co-wrote, is out with One Entertainment. Her shorts have screened at venues including the Vancouver International Film Festival and the Short Film Corner at Cannes, and have been presented/distributed by Boyish, Shorts International, and Sprint. Laramie got her start in New York developing and directing plays, most notably at the Flea Theater, where she was a resident director, and at Soho Rep, where she co-founded and chaired the Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab. She has a BA in English and Theater from Wesleyan University, and an MFA in Film & Television Production from USC. She’s now based in Los Angeles, where she freelances as a script supervisor, primarily on feature films.
