Jennifer is an Emmy & Sundance Film Festival-winning filmmaker whose career has spanned independent cinema and high-budget television — including prestige drama, comedy, science fiction, and fantasy. She has also been nominated for DGA and Independent Spirit Awards for her directing work. She began her career by writing and directing her first feature Half-Life, a magic-real family drama which premiered at Sundance.
Her second feature film Advantageous won a Sundance Dramatic Jury Prize and was acquired by Netflix for an exclusive worldwide streaming deal. The sci-fi mother-daughter drama became a cult hit while Jennifer ventured into television, directing a slew of high-end genre television including the science fiction hit series The Expanse, the Iceland episodes of HBO Max’s Emmy-nominated The Flight Attendant, Apple TV+‘s Foundation, The Expanse, Amblin’s Resident Alien, the pilot of the Disney+ hit series The Secret of Sulphur Springs, and Amazon’s popular darkly comic superhero series The Boys. She returned to Disney as director and co-executive producer to relaunch Disney’s multi-billion-dollar franchise through an expansive musical extravaganza, Descendants: The Rise of Red. Set in the world of Disney villains, the fantasy film debuted on Disney+ hitting number one on streaming ratings, Billboard soundtrack charts, and breaking Disney viewership records. The film earned Jennifer and her team five Emmy wins (including Outstanding Fiction Special) out of eleven nominations, as well as a Directors Guild Award nomination for Outstanding Directorial Achievement.
This year Jennifer additionally helped to create and run the DGA Asian American Committee Family Table Feature Film Mentorship Program. She is also a second year member of the Director's Peer Group Executive Committee at the Television Academy, producing events that encourage climate-aware content in television featuring speakers from shows such as The Pitt, Paradise, Shrinking, Hacks, The Morning Show, and Matlock.
