Born to immigrant parents and raised in NJ, Li chased what she thought was the American Dream and toiled on Wall Street before moving to Los Angeles to pursue her passion for filmmaking. She worked her way up from intern to producer on eight feature documentaries for HBO, Showtime, and other networks.

SHOOT named Li as a helmer to watch in their worldwide search for the next generation of directors. Li has since written and directed content for Twentieth Century FOX, Super Deluxe, (RED), General Electric, Call of Duty, Omaze, and L’Oeuf Poché.

Films that Li directed have been praised by Upworthy, Gizmodo, Vimeo (Staff Pick), SciFi Now, Huffington Post, Mitú, Angry Asian Man, and have screened at LACMA, the British Film Institute, the Academy of Motion Pictures, Slamdance, SITGES, the Hammer Museum, New York Fashion Week, etc.

She recently won the Mary Shelley Prize for directing KEPLER X-47, a sci-fi short film about a woman trapped in a human zoo exhibit on an alien planet, starring Bella Dayne (HUMANS, GUERRILLA). The jury praised Li for her “original vision, rigorous world-building, and creative storytelling in her impressive short film."

Li is bilingual (English and Mandarin Chinese), enjoys traveling off the beaten path, adventure sports, and junk food.
