Fawzia Mirza is a queer, Muslim, Pakistani, Indian, Canadian, American, She and They, writer and director named '10 Filmmakers to Watch' (Independent Magazine), White House ‘Champion of Change’ (Asian American Art & Storytelling), 3Arts Awardee, ‘Top 10 Creative’ (Indiewire), Djerassi Resident Artist, a Chicago Dept of Cultural Affairs 'Esteemed Artist' Grantee, a Tribeca Film Institute All Access alum, a 'Yes And Laughter Lab' winner and an Islamic Scholarship Fund winner. Her first feature, SIGNATURE MOVE (co-wrote, produced, stars in), world premiered at SXSW, screened 150+ film festivals, won 15 awards (Grand Jury Prize, US Narrative Feature, Outfest), distributed by Bohemia and Music Box Films. She wrote on CBS drama THE RED LINE, executive produced by Ava Duvernay. She wrote/directed shorts I KNOW HER (Palm Springs ShortFest, AmPav Cannes, CBC Short Film Face Off), HIDDEN CANYONS (Outfest Audience Winner, 3M+ TikTok views) and NOOR & LAYLA about reclaiming ritual through queer Muslim love marked by the five calls to prayer (produced by CBC Gem). She directed upcoming shorts THE SYED FAMILY X-MAS EVE GAME NIGHT and is in pre-production on GROUP TEXT, produced by Paul Feig/Powderkeg's women writer/director incubator. Her feature she wrote/will direct ME, MY MOM & SHARMILA (SFFILM Rainin Grantee, TIFF Writers' Studio, TIFF Filmmaker Lab) shoots Canada/Pakistan in 2022.
