Fawzia Mirza (she/they) is a queer, South Asian Muslim writer/director. She co-wrote feature SIGNATURE MOVE (world premiered SXSW, screened 150+ film festivals, won 15 awards). She wrote on CBS series THE RED LINE, EP'd by Greg Berlanti & Ava Duvernay. She's a White House Champion of Change, a Tribeca Film Institute All-Access alum, a ‘Yes, And Laughter Lab’ Winner, an Islamic Scholarship Fund Winner, a 2021 TIFF Canadian Filmmaker Honoree & nominated for The Iris Prize. She wrote/directed on TikTok series HIDDEN CANYONS (4M+ views) & award-winning shorts JIYO, SAYA, THE QUEEN OF MY DREAMS, I KNOW HER, NOOR & LAYLA. Her work's screened all over including BFI Flare, Palm Springs Shortfest, Outfest, BlackStar, Bentonville, Bend, Provincetown, Kashish, Oslo Fusion, Calgary, Seattle Int'l, Alaska Airlines & in classrooms. She directed THE SYED FAMILY XMAS EVE GAME NIGHT (world-premiered TIFF 2021) named to 'Canada's Top Ten Films,' written by/starring Kausar Mohammed w/ whom she also co-wrote/directed 20th Digital produced BROWN ELEPHANT (2.3M views). She's part of the Canadian Academy Directors Program for Women. She wrote/will direct feature ME, MY MOM & SHARMILA supported by SFFILM, TIFF Writers Studio/Filmmaker Lab, Telefilm, CBC, The Gotham. Her latest short AUNTIE, EP'd by Paul Feig (wp: Aspen Shortsfest, Special Mention Best Short Short) is on festival circuit now.
