Dorothy Xiao is a Los Angeles based Chinese American film director of grounded family dramas with magical elements, focusing on the complexities of vulnerable emotions like loneliness and grief. With a degree in Psychology, she likes to dive deep into raw and intimate moments, exploring the nuanced experiences of the human condition.

Her short films total over 600,000 views online, and have screened at multiple film festivals such as the Nevada City Film Festival, DTLA Film Festival, and the Oscar-qualifying Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. Her short film DIVE BAR played on board Alaska Airlines, reaching audiences 10,000+ miles in the air. She has worked on over 30 projects with companies like CBS, HBO, Disney, and Sundance. She also directed the award-winning short COLORFUL MINDS for the 2022 CBS Leadership Pipeline Challenge, which won a donation of $75,000 from CBS to the nonprofit Pained Brain.

When not making films, Dorothy binge watches movies with her stuffed bunny Rabby and drinks copious amounts of boba milk tea.
