Catherine Black is an award winning Toronto-Los Angeles based filmmaker-artist and published writer with 20+ years experience in film/TV.

Catherine's extensive practice as an actor and artist has rooted her artistic vision in filmmaking. Girl Trip (2018), written-direct by Catherine, is a POC for an 8 ep. genre series for streaming networks, currently on the festival circuit. Girl Trip WON Audience Choice at Hollyshorts, Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Twist, along with multiple nominations. Her multi award winning ‘sexy and surreal’ short film, De Puta Madre A Love Story (2014), WON Best Director (London IFF), Best Lead Actress (Madrid IFF), and Best Cinematography (Columbia Gorge IFF) along with multiple jury awards and nominations Internationally. Catherine has produced-directed branded content, music videos, commercials, and shadowed multiple film/TV directors at NFB, NBC, CBC, and independent films.

In 2019 Catherine is directing 2 short films: 1 about female mental health, the other about an obese woman with a rare disease trapped in a toxic relationship with her caretaker, and is in development on a feature based on a true story that is the female Canadian "The Wolf On Wall Street". Catherine's surreal paintings have been exhibited internationally, and as an actress, she's worked with many directors and A-list actors; as mentors and collaborators.
