Gossamer Folds, AWD Member Lisa Donato‘s feature directorial debut has been nominated for a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Picture in the Limited Release category! The film, distributed by Indican Pictures, centers on a 10-year-old boy uprooted to a Kansas City suburb who develops an unlikely friendship with a retired professor and his transgender daughter.

AWD Member Bonnie Foster‘s short film BUTTERFLY was recently named Best Indie Short of 2020 by the Independent Shorts Awards. The annual nominees from the past two years were shortlisted from a pool of 24 monthly finalists. These finalists were chosen from almost 10,000 films, submitted between April 2019 and March 2021. BUTTERFLY focuses on a fashion model who escapes to the desert and she meets a mysterious stranger who finally brings the change she’s been looking for.
See You Tomorrow, a short film by AWD Member Katarzyna Kochany, premiered this month on the Switzerland-based Sofy TV, available on Samsung TV Plus in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Austria. The film is also streaming on CBC Gem in Canada. The short follows two macho cops secretly haunted by PTSD, who find deeper camaraderie in the aftermath of a case that pushed them both to the brink.
AWD Member Alexandra (Alle) Hsu has recently completed production on her most recent short film – UNWAVERING. The film, which got the greenlight on Seed&Spark, was inspired by real events, telling the fictional story of Carolyn Kim, a Korean-American student who begins the fight for an Ethnic Studies program on her college campus.
Alle was also recently featured in Next Shark – in an article she co-wrote regarding her work studying the Vincent Chin murder – and by her alma mater Scripps College – for an article she wrote on Honoring the Past Through Film.
