As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency, accessibility, and community connection, Interim Executive Director Kylie Eaton holds weekly virtual office hours every Friday from 1-2pm PT / 4-5pm ET, exclusively for AWD Directing and Ally Members.

Please note: There will not be Office Hours this Friday as AWD will be at Cine Gear June 6-7. For other weeks, use the Zoom link on the calendar page.

AWD South invites all Directing and Ally Members to their June Book Club! We will be reading “The Short” and discussing it with author Rae Shaw. Additionally, Rae will conduct a short workshop on personal themes and how to use them in your writing and directing.

In “The Short”, Rae helps you deploy the tools of screenwriting through a short form lens, helping you master a powerful tool of creative expression.

Social Sundays are a great place for members to network with each other, prep for the coming week, and have FUN! 

June’s event will be hosted in person by Interim Executive Director Kylie Eaton and Operations Coordinator Nikki Braendlin from 4-6p PT at Forman’s Whiskey Tavern (10149 Riverside Dr, Toluca Lake, CA 91602). Lite bites will served with cash bar.

AWD Directing and Ally Members are invited to join AWD South for a Journey to Success virtual interview with Shayla Cowan. Having worked on films like Girls Trip, Ride Along, Night School, and Straight Outta Compton, Shayla understands what makes a project viable and marketable.

Moderated by AWD South Co-Chair, Elise Hines, Shayla will discuss:

-What makes a director stand out
-How to collaborate with producers and production companies at a high level
-How directors can better position themselves for studio projects and opportunities
