Works in Progress (Virtual)

The AWD Works in Progress (WIP) is an interactive and fun program that offers peer to peer feedback on rough cuts. This support helps Directing Members shape their films before launching a film festival run or seeking distribution.
This month we’re meeting virtually and will review the narrative short, MEOW! (Dir. Nikki Braendlin) and several members’ reels. Viewing reels is a great way to see what works and what can be improved in your own calling card!

Social Sunday (Virtual)

Social Sundays are a great place for AWD Directing and Ally Members to relax at the end of the weekend, prepare for the coming week, and find community!
September’s topic will be announced closer to the event.

Fundraising for Directors

Independent filmmakers often hear about financing, but many projects are made possible through fundraising—grants, fiscal sponsorship, sponsorships, and individual donors.
This interactive 90-minute workshop demystifies the world of contributed revenue, helping directors understand how to build a fundraising strategy that complements (rather than replaces) traditional film financing. Participants will learn how to identify the right funding sources, craft a compelling case for support, avoid common fundraising pitfalls, and develop a practical plan they can use whether they’re raising funds for a short film, feature, or series.
The workshop will also introduce AWD’s Fiscal Sponsorship Program, a member benefit that enables eligible projects to raise tax-deductible contributions from individuals, foundations, and donor-advised funds. Attendees will leave with actionable tools, recommended resources, and the confidence to begin securing philanthropic support for their creative work.
This workshop is free for AWD members and open to the public for a fee. REGISTER HERE.
