Sylvia Ray is an award winning Chicana/Korean-American filmmaker that focuses on telling stories about characters that overcome fears and feelings of unworthiness while navigating the humor of the human experience.
Recently, her short film Preggers won Best Comedy Short at the Arizona International Film Festival and screened at The Academy through the LatinX InFocus program at New Filmmakers LA. She was selected to HBO's Tomorrow's Filmmaker's Today program in both 2020 and 2019. As a result, LEN(N)Y was streamed to audiences on Pantaya and Dish Latino and her short film A Period Piece screened to a packed audience at the historical Montalban Theater.
Sylvia has recently been a semi-finalist for the CDDP Commercial Directing program, Issa Rae's Project Greenlight, McDonald's Spotlight Dorado Short Film contest, Starz and WrapWomen: Telling Our Stories competition, and the MACEF Filmmaker Production Grant.
She is based in Los Angeles and pulls inspiration from her desert-town upbringing, travels abroad, her fashion background, and motherhood.
