Sandi Johnson is an Emmy Award-winning writer/director. She started her career in theatre, and was the Managing Producer of the Actors Studio Free Theater for director Arthur Penn. She also co-founded and ran an Off-Broadway theatre company, Pure Orange Productions.
Sandi moved to Los Angeles to work in television, and has worked on series like The Bachelor, Hell’s Kitchen, Dance Moms and Undercover Boss (2 Emmy nominations, 1 win), rising to the role of Showrunner and Executive Producer, as well as working as an SVP in Current Programming. In her travels through reality television, she has directed extensively, from directing the house cameras on The Bachelor, to directing cast in open title segments, working with celebrity hosts for the best delivery of their copy, and directing pilot presentations.
For the last five years, Sandi has been transitioning her career to writing and directing narrative and documentary television and film. She’s interested in telling the stories of underdogs, outsiders and rabble-rousers, and strives to make content that helps people feel less alone.
Sandi was a Sundance New Voices Fellow in 2019, and is currently earning her MFA from USC's School of Cinematic Arts. She’s had many jobs, but learned the most about life and work from being an Executive Assistant and an employee at KFC.
