Roxy Toporowych is an award-winning writer, director and producer, whose work is inspired by her Ukrainian-American upbringing. She wrote and directed her narrative feature debut, JULIA BLUE, while she was a Fulbright Scholar living in Kyiv, Ukraine (2014/2015) at the beginning of Russia’s invasion. JULIA BLUE, a love story told during the time of war, has screened in competition at the Seattle International Film Festival, Cleveland International Film Festival and Molodist. The film has won several Best Film and Best International feature awards on the 2018/19 circuit. Roxy was awarded the Special Jury Prize for Best Director World Cinema at the Woodstock Film Festival 2018 and Best Director at Sonoma Film Festival 2019. In 2022, JULIA BLUE was named one of the top ten films about Ukraine by The Guardian UK.

Roxy is an IFP Narrative Lab Directing Fellow 2016, Seattle WIP Labs Fellow 2017, and the recipient of the IFP / Gotham Calvin Klein 'Live the Dream' grant for emerging directors.

Roxy is graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, and has worked in set decoration for nearly 20 years. Credits include: Captain America: Winter Solider, Confess, Fletch! and West Side Story.

Presently she is a 2024 fellow at the AFI DWW+ program with her short film, Ukrainian Dance Movie, allowing her to pivot full time to directing.
