Lisa N. Alexander is an award-winning writer, director, producer, and journalist whose work centers complex, purpose-driven stories and the communities behind them.

Her filmmaking career began after Hurricane Harvey, when she and her husband, Elgin, documented the volunteers of Mercy Response as they helped Houston families rebuild. The resulting documentary, What Mercy Looks Like, received a Gold Remi from WorldFest-Houston and was selected to screen at the San Antonio Film Festival.

Through her creative agency, PrettyWork Creative, Lisa went on to write, direct, and produce documentaries for nonprofit organizations. Just One, which follows young adults impacted by both the foster care and juvenile justice systems, received a Silver Remi and screened at the San Antonio Film Festival. Her docudrama The Spiral explores the experiences of marginalized families navigating complex systems.

Now based in Los Angeles, Lisa is the founder of PrettyWork Studios and This Woman Knows Media. She is developing her narrative feature directorial debut, My Father, The Queen, a family drama exploring identity, secrecy, grief, and the complicated journey toward forgiveness.
