Catherine Andre
Catherine Andre is a theater and film director who makes dark funny love stuff about messy women. A recent graduate of AFI, Catherine started making movies as a teenager at Interlochen Arts Academy before studying literature and theater at Princeton University. As a theater director in NYC, she directed new works and radical feminist reinterpretations of classical plays before moving to Europe on a Fulbright grant. Over the next five years, Catherine assisted European auteurs while creating her own work that combined theater, film, and visceral performance.
In 2023, Catherine returned to the United States to attend the AFI Conservatory as a director fellow where she directed five student shorts and developed two feature-length scripts, one of which was a semifinalist for the 2026 Sundance Labs. Her thesis film, BEHIND THE MASK, won Amazon’s Innovative Storytelling grant and will premiere at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
As a neurodivergent woman of Indian and European heritage, Catherine is proud to tell multicultural stories that center characters of color who do not fit into easy boxes.
