OVERVIEW:
The AWD TV Shadowing program is an on-going program created to help our members gain skills, and networking opportunities as Directors for television. We will be reaching out to shows in the narrative, sitcom, reality and talk show formats. Our long-term goal is to build relationships in the TV industry that will help our members get hired as television Directors and increase the number of women working in television.

VOLUNTEERS:
Anyone interested in directing for TV is encouraged to volunteer for the Shadowing Committee. As a volunteer you will be responsible for a list of assigned shows that you will need to contact to create shadowing opportunities. We will provide you with AWD letterhead and cover letter templates that you can use to correspond with the show's shadowing contact. If you have relationships with specific shows please let us know and we will make every effort to assign you as the liaison for that show.

CANDIDACY:
To become a candidate for a shadowing opportunity members must comply with the application process which includes submitting the online application form (downloadable from the AWD website), a detailed resume, a narrative statement which includes a brief bio and your philosophy as a director, as well as a link to your reel or sample of your work online. (We cannot accept DVDs at this time.)

PLEASE SUBMIT ALL APPLICATIONS ELECTRONICALLY TO:
awdshadowing@gmail.com

APPLICATION FEE: $25 (see application form for how to submit payment)

SUBMISSION DATES: FEBRUARY 1 - MARCH 1, 2012

The Shadowing Supervisory Committee will review all applications and interview potential candidates. All candidates will be submitted to the board for final approval. Approved candidates will be notified no later than April 15, 2012.

SHADOWING PROTOCOL:
Once you are selected for a shadowing opportunity it is your responsibility to communicate with the contact person on the show to schedule your shadowing dates. Each show operates differently and has different requirements for how long and during which phase(s) of production you will be allowed to shadow. Please keep in mind that you will be representing the AWD as well as yourself and that your behavior may determine whether or not other members will be able to shadow on the same show. So please act professionally and be respectful of how the show operates.

SHADOWING BLOG:
We also encourage all shadowing participants to blog about their experiences via the AWD Shadowing blog on the website. These shared experiences will help familiarize other members with how different shows function and give them an idea of what to expect when it is their turn.

THANK YOU GIFTS:
Towards the end of every shadowing experience an AWD representative will drop off or send a Thank You Gift from the AWD so please keep us informed of your shadowing dates so we can coordinate the appropriate time to deliver the gift.
