Sarah Elgart
Director/Choreographer Sarah Elgart has worked with pioneer directors
including Curtis Hanson, David Lynch, Julien Temple, Bob Giraldi, and Roger
Spottiswoode for whom she choreographed the Emmy award winning "And The Band
Played On." Her credits include music videos and commercials with an array
of recording artists such as Santana, Babyface, Depeche Mode, Diana Ross,
the Pointer Sisters, as well as actors such as Cindy Crawford, Jason
Alexander, Robert Downey Jr., Geena Davis, and others. As the Performance
Producer and Segment Director for The Disney Channel's award winning Mickey
Mouse Club, her music videos and performance numbers helped jump start the
careers of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, 'N Sync's JC Chasez & Justin
Timberlake and Keri Russell.
In 1992 Sarah completed her first short film "Blind Faith" for the American
Film Institute's Directing Workshop for Women. In addition to projects for
Court TV, the American Choreography Awards, and Women in Film, she has
directed "The Dream Project", a series of short films written by and
created with young people facing critical illness, which continues to screen
at international festivals. Sarah has recently completed the music video
"The Way" for recording artist Mia Doi Todd on the Plug Research label, and
will be directing a documentary for the No Ho Streetscape Improvement
Project for North Hollywood.
Sarah has received numerous awards/fellowships from the National Endowment
for the Arts, Rockefeller Foundations, the California Arts Council, the
Vanguard Award for Choreographic Innovation, and many others. Her work has
been commissioned by Peter Sellars and venues including The Getty Center for
the Arts, the European Culture Capital Festival in Antwerp, The Kennedy
Center, The Mark Taper Forum, and the Olympic Arts Festival. In 1987 & 1988
Sarah was selected as one of four nationally recognized
director/choreographers for the Sundance Institute's Dance/Film Lab, where
she began experimenting with dance and the camera, and worked with such
luminaries as Stanley Donen and Michael Kidd.
Sarah is a Director member of the DGA. She is currently in production on a
documentary about dance with Producer Teresa Campbell and Director of
Photography Patrick Darrin.
